Background Check for Coaches

General Instructions:

1. Please check the website regularly and ask your softball parents to check it as well. We plan to update the site regularly.
2. Begin practices as scheduled on Monday, March 31 or Tuesday, April 1. Please do not cancel practices unless it is raining or thundering & lightning. The grass can be used when the infields are too muddy. If it is chilly or windy, try to have an active practice and cut the duration by 15 or 30 minutes.
3. Read your coaches packet distributed by MTBSA.
4. Please be sure to have a parent meeting. Introduce yourself and your assistant coaches. Explain that we want to have fun but that we also want to teach the girls correct skills. Learning the correct skills and the rules are part of the game. Competitive play is part of travel softball. Encourage parents to ask questions and keep communication open.
5. Background check forms are available on the website. If you have not turned in a form, please print, complete and mail a form as soon as possible. If you were approved last year for the first time, you are still current. Background checks are good for 2 years.

Softball Program Philosophy:

• All of the girls should be learning the same skills with similar techniques so that they may advance through the program with continuity.
• Learning skills properly from the very beginning is important for development and self esteem.
• Building on those skills as they advance will provide them with measurable success.
