Player participation in Minors baseball is suitable for children ages 8*, 9, or 10 who are in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Grade. Minors is designed to introduce players to “real” baseball following a model which closely parallels LCYBL 10U section 2 rules and regulations. The goal for Minors baseball is to prepare players for more competitive baseball as they grow in experience. Details of play are below:
All Minors players must attend an evaluation at the MTHS South Gym tentatively scheduled for Sunday morning, March 14th (time TBD), and will be drafted by the coaches immediately following the evaluation.
Players pitch to their opponents – coaching staff closely monitors pitch count & days rest per LCYBL guidelines.
Balls, strikes, outs and runs are recorded, but should not be the focus at this level.
Player playing/field time follows MTBSA requirements and will be communicated by the coach to players and parents at the start of the season.
There will be an end-of-year tournament, with a league champion named.
The pitcher’s mound is placed at 40’ and the base pads are placed at 60’ apart
Practice schedule is usually 1 night per week – coach to communicate specific day of week.
Expect 1-2 games per week.
Umpires are parent volunteers.
*2nd grade players must be evaluated by an MTBSA volunteer prior to the season to ensure that they are capable of competing in the Minor’s program. Safety is our #1 concern and any questionable 2nd grader will be asked to play with their classmates in Rookies.
